Coventry City 0-0 Leeds United

Highfield Road: 3.00pm

Despite the final score line, this was far from the usual stereotype 0-0 boring draw. We were kept entertained throughout the match. It was a refresing change to see Darren Huckerby and Stephen McPhail in the starting line up for the first time this term.

From the kick-off it was obvious Leeds were not going to be bossed and had more than their fair share of the game. Two bright sides provided a good contest. From the first free kick of the game Harte beatifully struck the ball and it took a great save from the keeper high to his left corner, who somehow managed to keep the ball out and it went for a corner to stop Leeds taking the lead.

It was heartening to see McPhail back in mid-field who, despite lack of match practice, was well worth his place in the side. Can't wait to see him after he's got a few games under his belt. The midfield with Dacourt, Bowyer, McPail and Bakke, when he gets back from injury, will be one part of the team to be reckoned with.

Halfway through the half Leeds again were desperately unlucky when the industrious Dacourt unleashed a wonderful swerving shot which just curved a fraction too much round the top left corner of the goal. Huckerby tried hard too and produced some decent runs. It must be extremely difficult for this lad after being a star in the Coventry side, to come to Leeds and spend most of the time on the bench. Surely DOL must give him a decent run to give the lad a chance to recover the form we know he is capable of. It is obvious DOL didn't buy him to warm the bench week after week.

If he isn't going to use him, why not sell him. His career is being wastedin the sitiuation he is in at the moment. He wasn't even given a chance to come on against Man City in mid-week, another major mistake by DOL in my opinion. The substitutes are part of the team. If tactics are against us DOL must learn to change things, try somthing different as Arsene Wenger did the night after the Leeds defeat when the Gunners were two down, the use of the substitutes saved the game for his team.

After end to end stuff both teams had created and missed chances. Bridges' luck must change soon, after another superb volley similar to the one that almost smashed the crossbar against Man City just went wide with the keeper nowhere. The second half pattern was similar to tye fist with both teams trying to get on top. A few niggly tackles were coming into the game which could have been brought about by some of the referees decisions, frustrating to say the least.

More chances fell to both sides but as the scoreline suggests none were taken. Coventry probably missed the best two chancesof the game when on at least two occasions players really did miss sitters.Wilcox was brought on late for Huckers. This to me was a sight for sore eyes.He didn't pull any trees up but a class player of Wilcox standard is a joy to see. He will be back thank goodness and he will star.

0-0 then the final score, enjoyable and after the Man City game a pleasure to keep a clean sheet. It was a game that I thought we would never lose but also a game that we probably should and could have have won. Loudest chant of the afternoon was "Bowyer for England", this went on for several minutes. The saddest was about Carlton Palmer. Nuff said. The Leeds supporters were quite good not up to our usual standard but not bad. The referee was very poor , something of a homer.

Players scores

Martyn 7 Handling from crosses and so on was excellent. Not a lot to do really. I don't remember him having to stop a serious shot.

Kelly 7 Steady. Did all he had to do and linked up on occasions. No complaints.

Harte 6 A bit better than of late free kicks average some were poor. The power this lad has he should should get in to shooting positions more often and have a crack.

Lucas 7 Dominating as usual. I shudder to think what we would do without him on occasions.

Doobes 6 Not a bad performace. I don't want to be unkind to him but the opposition was just about what he is capable of dealing with.

Bowyer 7 Bright and breezy at times. Had a couple of chances, one splendid effort in particular when he broke through and was saved by the keepers legs. If he is 100% fit in my opinion he should be involved far more in the game than he is.

McPhail 7 For his first time back in the side it was perfectly acceptable. Stephen also saw an excellent volley just scream over thecross-bar clipping the net as it went over. A few more games will hopefully see him back to his best.

Dacourt 8 Best man for my money. He is proving to be an excellent buy. He is skillful a fighter, always going forward, good attitude.I f only his great swerving effort had gone in.

Huckerby 6 Must be given a run in the team. He has the ability, we know that. He must be lacking in confidence with the way he is treated by DOL.

Smith 7 What can you say? 100% effort: he gives his all for the team. He has curbed most of his nastiness and may be a great player for the future.

Bridges 7 Needs a goal to build his confidence up. He has been very unlucky on a few occasions. Looked better yesterday without Viduka getting in the way. I'm sure a few goals will bring Michael back on song.

No really high scores but it was that sort of performance!
