No.3: Time to get excited!

'Yeah we qualified for the Champions League first round proper, big deal. We won our first league fixture comfortably - wow. In one week we doubled the number of signings made this season after waiting all summer for new players. That's nice.

But there's one thing you can't fail to get excited about. DOMINIC MATTEO! Err...I mean, AC MILAN and BARCELONA versus the mighty Leeds United (Official Champions League 1st Phase Qualifiers)! Bring 'em on!

Lets do things in chronological order shall we? OK, signing no.1 - Dominic Matteo. I must admit I'm slightly disappointed. I woke up, put teletext on, as usual and read 'Leeds in Matteo swoop'. I was so excited I nearly got up. While the page was coming round I was thinking 'Di Matteo from Chelsea, yeah he'd be good. Bit of quality in midfield, why not?' When it was revealed we were signing D. Matteo of Liverpool I was annoyed.

With all these big names linked with us we went for someone who was a regular part of one of the worst defences in the Premiership a couple of years ago. Not a fantastic pedigree, but I think we should at least wait until he's played for us before we judge him (which should be in a couple of months. Can't wait).

Game no.1 - Everton (h). Wasn't too confident beforehand but we beat them comfortably enough. Alan Smith played like his life was on the line and he produced the goods. I just have a terrible feeling that Mark Viduka will wait a while before 'finding the effort' to score his first goal. Funny to hear what our Manager and Saviour said to him in midweek. O'Leary (respect) apparently called him a lazy sod yet still bought him.We must be paying him peanuts for him to remain an attractive buy considering that. Seriously, I believe he will be a good player for Leeds, as long as he can find the effort.

Talking of effort, how many of you found the effort to register to u>direct who showed the magnificent triumph in midweek? I know I didn't, which means that I had to endure the wonder that is Radio 5 Live And The Indecisive Producers. What was the point of flying a team to Germany and paying for rights to broadcast, only to have Everton v Charlton interrupting every five minutes and then to leave the game in Munich completely and go to a bottom of the table clash for exclusive live commentary? In future I may have to actually go to games to be able to see any action! Incredible!

I want to stop you there. I want you to stop, put your hands above your head and shout 'YEAH!' because Leeds are now one of the big boys in Europe. I can't wait until ITV shows the mighty Shakhtar Donetsk v Arsenal instead of the minor Leeds v Barcelona on a Wednesday night (it'll happen, just watch). But that doesn't matter because we've finally made it into the premier competition in world football. As long as we don't suffer from Champions League syndrome on Saturday, I'm happy. And It's not often that I'm happy
