Wednesday November 22nd

Leeds United 0-2 Real Madrid

Elland Road: 7.45pm

When you play the best team in Europe, or possibly the world, then it's difficult to criticise our team for eventually being outclassed by them. The difference between the teams in my opinion were that their midfield could all control the ball, all run with it, all tackle, all track back, all break quickly, all make space.

We had Bowyer as our only recognised midfielder. We were simply not good enough. No amount of tactics or motivation can bridge that sort of gap.

I appreciate that Rio is a class act. Still a bit raw but essentially a proper footballer with the potential to become the best. I do however feel that our midfield is too light. We have 4 good midfielders but most clubs of this size would have 6 or 7. We need 2 more class middle of the park players to fill in, or even push for a place, in the starting X1. Burns is not up to it yet. "One for the future" I think the phrase is. We miss Batty.

Anyway last night was a pleasure to watch. Leeds played with heart and pride and Madrid played with skill, pace, power and thought. We could have upset them had we scored when we had our chances but nobody can argue that Real are simply a world class team.

Great atmosphere too.

Well done lads - we're all proud of you.
