We must win on Sunday! It's as simple as that. Saturday's result (Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool) at Old Trafford leaves us seven points behind the scum - but we can close it down to four with a win against Coventry. However, perhaps more significantly, with the pack are closing on us, a victory would take us six points away from Liverpool.
Coventry were flying high earlier in the season but their form has dipped somewhat of late. In fact, they go into Sunday's game with three Premiership defeats in their last four games. This includes a 2-0 defeat at The Riverside in their last league outing. Significantly, they have yet to win a Premiership away game all season. It's a good job their form at Highfield Road has been better - especially earlier in the campaign. At present, they lie in thirteenth place on 32 points. They appear to be set for mid table mediocrity but no doubt their supporters would prefer this to a relegation battle!
Of course, whenever we play the Sky Blues, it's always about players returning to their previous clubs. As usual, Strachan and Whelan will be welcomed back with open arms - although the same can't be said about McAllister and Palmer. The latter though has been injured so may not play. Huckerby was a big favourite with the Coventry fans but probably isn't anymore.
The team news isn't exactly certain at the moment with several United players suffering from knocks sustained in the midweek heroics in Rome. Bridges aggravated his ankle injury and looks a little doubtful whilst Jones and Kewell suffered minor injuries but should be fit. There has been some talk that O'Leary might rest the latter, playing Wilcox on the left and Smithy and Huckerby up front. However, this is such an important game (as they all are now!) that it would be a brave decision to leave out our star man.
Coventry have had several players out of late: Froggatt, Hall, Palmer and Roussel. Undoubtedly, the latter is the most significant. Roussell has been a revelation during his short time in the Premiership and looks like proving one of the buys of the season. Colin Hendry looks set to make his first start since his recent move from Rangers, although whether he will be able to cope with the pace contained within the United forwards is anybody's guess. Strachan may also be tempted to give a start to new signing, striker Ysrael Zuniga. Nobody seems to have heard of him in these parts but apparently he is a major star in South America, having twice won the prestigious South American Golden Boot. Strachan's recent record on purchasing good value strikers would bode well for his future success in the premiership - but hopefully not on Saturday.
